A list is a promise to leave things out
Eighteen hotels, four sections, and a rule against padding any of them.
Why a list
Guides grow. A section that starts with the six hotels worth describing ends up with twenty, because twenty looks more authoritative than six, and because leaving something out feels like an admission. We decided at the start that the shape of this guide would be the argument it makes, so the count is fixed and every addition costs a removal.
The second decision was the format. A hotel is one line until you open it, which means a section can be read in a minute or in half an hour depending on what you actually want. Nothing is hidden behind a click for the sake of it: the closed line carries the one thing worth knowing, and the brief is there when the line does its job.
Who does this
Three writers and a photographer, working from Perth since 2020. We do not publish names or faces, because the guide is not about us and a byline would suggest a personal account we do not give.
One of us keeps the art and capsule sections, one keeps the ice section, and one keeps the casino hotels and the legal pages. The photographer keeps a record of the buildings that has never been published here, because the site runs on description rather than pictures.
Where our details come from
We describe hotels from public sources. That means the hotels' own published material, architectural and design publications, planning and heritage records for the buildings, and the public statements operators make about what a building was before it was a hotel.
We do not publish accounts of staying anywhere. Nobody on this desk claims to have inspected a room, tested a bed or checked a bathroom, and no entry on this site should be read as a report on a stay. Where a detail could not be established from a public source, it is not on the page.
Every entry carries the month it was last checked, and the hotels whose name or operator we know has changed hands recently carry that note in the open brief.
